How To Choose A Festival Outfit For The Australian Seasons

Choosing an outfit can be tricky, especially when Australian seasons are all over the place. One day in Australia can be scorching hot one minute, freezing cold the next, then back to boiling hot and raining. It’s smart to choose an outfit that can withstand the wild Australian seasons.

Summer –

Australian summer gets so hot it will have you wishing you were never born. If you are to go to an Australian festival in summer it’d be smart to choose your outfit wisely.

Avoid: Wool, Silk, Flannel and any other materials that keep the heat close to your body and aim for loose fabric.
Ideal options for tops: Crop Tops, Bralettes and Summer Dresses, Festival Capes teamed up with Singlets or Gym Tops
Ideal options for bottoms: Shorts, BoHo-style Pants, Maxi-Skirts or Gym Tights

Don't forget the sunscreen !

Autumn –

Autumn in Australia is the time when it’s freezing in the morning, yet 40 degrees in the afternoon. It can be the hardest season to choose a festival outfit for (unfortunately for me, birthday celebration outfits too). You want to aim for an outfit that’ll be suitable for hot weather whilst incorporating a removable item that’ll keep you warm in cold weather.

Avoid: Short Shorts, Crop Tops, Loose, Thin & Airy Fabric
Ideal options for Tops: Loose 3/4 Sleeved Shirts, Off the Shoulder Tops, Strapless tops,
Ideal options for bottoms: Gym Tights, Maxi Skirts, Jeans etc

Don't forget your Jacket !

¬†Winter –

Winter is a time in the year for festivals that only the realest festival heads will attend. A cold, wet, miserable season for a festival to be held in, you must be game to rock it in this weather. Aim for an outfit that will keep you warm and dry.

Avoid: Short Shorts, Crop Tops, Loose, Thin & Airy Fabric
Ideal options for Tops: Tight 3/4 Sleeved Shirts, Long Sleeve Dresses, Gym Clothing
Ideal options for bottoms: Gym Tights, Maxi Skirts, Jeans, 3/4 Gym Tights

Don't forget a Jacket !

Spring –

My favourite of the 4 Australian seasons, the time when the flowers are bright, the birds are chirping and the sun is in the sky (mostly). When choosing a festival outfit for Spring, keep in mind that while the sun is shining, the clouds can unleash fury at any moment. It is best to aim for an outfit that will keep you cool, while also being able to protect you from any cold, wet weather.

Avoid: Thin & Airy Fabrics, Thick and Warm materials and avoid any material that will hold water in.
Ideal options for Tops: Loose Shirts, Crop Tops, Off the Shoulder Tops, Strapless tops, Dresses
Ideal options for bottoms: Maxi Skirts, 3/4 Gym Tights, Denim Shorts, Knee-High Skirts

Don't forget the sunscreen!
